Have you noticed that truly beautiful music speaks real truth?
It's been a musical day. First, I watched a documentary about music and the mind. Fascinating! The connections between our minds and the effect music has on us is remarkable. The fact that children show appreciable cognitive advancements when playing music instruments early tells me that we've got to do more in schools. The corpus callosum, the part of the brain that connects both hemispheres of the brain, is larger and more fully developed in people who learned to play music as children. Their visual-spatial cognition is better. Linguistic centers are more highly developed as well. Seems like a no-brainer! We've got to do more to encourage musical learning in our children.
My Pandora station was tuned to Miles Davis. Jazz for hours. Funny thing...as much as I like jazz, I normally don't listen to hours of it. Miles was doing it for me earlier.
Now, I'm watching the Swell Season documentary. Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová make beautiful music. I'd heard they weren't seeing each other anymore. A real shame considering the music they were able to create.
Music...truth and beauty.
